The Social media and Big Data have helped in numerous ways to ease a problem which without it, can be a hectic task. Sure Social media is already on the line helping the political candidates and now the bar is increased with the use of big data using which we can get to know the total money raised by each candidate with aggregated user interaction from social media such as Facebook and YouTube.
The Election Scorecare by Enga.ge is a big data tool which provides automated influence by collecting the information from social media along with the money raised by each candidate. David Almacy, a partner with Enga.ge stated that "Fundraising—money—is a key performance indicator for electoral success. Money pays for necessary things like staff, advertising, and consultants."
There is no better medium than social media in order to know the public opinion and Almacy explained that he had already built a prototype of the Scorecard during 2012 elections. His goal is to know how people will choose the political candidates with the help of social media by knowing the share patterns among the social media.
The Scorecard is said to be more sophisticated than the initial version that Almacy had developed. The current version is mobile friendly which will be acquiring real time data, several times a day. Another important feature is said to be that people can not only view presidential candidates, but they can also choose to view other local politicians and celebrities.
