Today Google released its revamped always-free tier and trial program for its Google Cloud Platform.This free tier program provides sufficient amount of power to run a small app on Google Cloud Platform. In addition to it, there is an expanded free trial program which gives you $300 in credits to be used over a span of 12 months.
Earlier Google used to provide $300 in credits but the difference was that it had to be utilized within 60 days. The Free tier allows free usage of a small instance (f1-micro) in Google Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Cloud Pub/Sub and Compute Engine. The free tier comprises of 15 different services.
The most important update is that there is an addition of 5GB free Cloud Storage and Compute Engine instance. You can find the limits of all the services which are the major part of cloud applications here. The Free tier is only available in Google’s us-east1, us-central1 and us-west1 regions.
AWS offers similar but more limited Free tier with a 12-month trial program for the users. Google’s free tier is almost similar to 12 months Free tier program of AWS apart from a difference that AWS does not include free virtual machine. The aim of google was to make people get comfortable with Google's platform.
