This service currently offers three tools and is said to get more over the time.
-
Rekognition
-
Amazon Polly
-
Lex
The first tool ‘Rekognition’ is meant for recognizing scenes and objects in a similar way that other companies like Microsoft and Google does, but Amazon stated that the tool was able to recognize a dog’s breed by looking at an image, which again is similar to that of what other companies are capable of doing.
Next up is ‘Amazon Polly’ which is a text-to-speech service that is said to provide life-like speech by using lots of power from machine learning. Amazon stated that the tool was designed to address the challenging aspects of speech recognition and that Polly was able to make out the difference between the word ‘live’ used in a statement like ‘I live in Seattle’ and ‘Live’ used in ‘Live from New York’.
The last one and also considered as the most important one is ‘Lex’, which also powers Amazon’s Alexa. The tool can be used to create applications that can support multi-step conversations. Lex Console will be used by the developers to train the bot with the sample phrases.
Lex is not only limited to Amazon devices and AWS services but has already been integrated with tools like Slack and Facebook Messenger, allowing integration with broader devices.
