AWS is certainly one amongst the leader of the public cloud market. The company offers a lot of different services and without a doubt, EC2 Cloud Service and S3 Service Storage are two of their most popular services.
In 2015 aws:reinvent, the company made an announcement of a database migration service. Under this service users can easily migrate production databases to AWS with minimal downtime. On 30th December 2016, AWS chief executive Andy Jassy tweeted that database migration service( DMS) is gaining popularity and 2000 customers have come on board with DMS since the commencement of aws:reinvent 2016. Along with that, 16000 total number of migration happened in 2016.
Andy, at last, says “DB freedom is a powerful thing”. In order to extract data from existing databases like SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL customers will have to pay huge amount and then pushing to cloud based services. AWS also has its own Aurora managed relational database Using Aurora will certainly mean freedom from Oracle and Microsoft but customers will be limited only to Aurora. Even if Aurora is compatible with MySQL and PostgreSQL but it is not open source.
