Social network giant Facebook is now trying to get its own video content from its creative partners. The video content is planned to include sports, unscripted and scripted shows. This, however, is not new to Facebook as it had done deals with several media organizations to use its Live video broadcasting platform which generated some revenue for Facebook.
The result of this is somewhat related to Netflix as Facebook is planning to purchase its contents both from licensing as well as from outset. The question is, why does Facebook even need to buy videos as they already have lots of videos on their platform? This is not entirely sufficient for Facebook, as currently, it is not a perfect experience that users need.
Facebook also has a video tab on the site and it is just not what one would use as a video content destination as the videos are dedicated towards a particular section of individual pages and also they are spread throughout user’s timeline.
The platform can be better targeted towards monetization by including some major audience grabber contents such as sports which will be beneficial for both Facebook as well as other partners who are currently using the platform to push their videos.
