Google has come up with a new feature called fingerprint scanning for its Chrome OS desktop Operating. Chrome OS latest version 58.0.3007.0 allows user for using the fingerprint scanner for unlocking their Chromebook.
Users can also enable a new feature called “Quick Unlock” by entering://flags on Chromebook. After entering this URL user can set up this new feature on Chromebook and user can unlock it by scanning their fingerprint as the user has already signed in. Go to the Settings app and user can configure this feature on Screen lock’s section. Up to five fingerprints can be registered. Chrome story has also reported that this new feature is available on the latest chrome OS Canary build. Dev channel has come up with this latest update.
This unlock feature gets Chrome OS in line with Android, Windows, and iOS, and recently to MacOS also. Apple has distinguished 2016’s MacBook Pro from all the previous Mac computers by adding biometric authentication to its Touch ID power button.
Till date Google has graced fingerprint scanners on Nexus and Pixel phones, it has never brought this fingerprint scanner feature on Chromebook. None of the companies have added this feature. Chromebook is the only one OS that is expected to work with the fingerprint scanner. That only device may or may not turn out to be future Chromebook Pixel.
This fingerprint scanning feature inclusion in Chrome dev will be coming after few months when Google will start allowing people use a PIN number for unlocking Chromebooks.
