Microsoft has announced that it has acquired Deis, a company which offers tools and services of the container transformation. Deis can run on a single server from Engine Yard.
Engine Yard is a startup company through which the Deis open source software tools were first developed. The deal with Deis however, were not closed and now, it is moving to Microsoft.
Microsoft’s Azure container service supports all container orchestration frameworks like Mesos, Docker Swarm, Apache Mesos, which in turn are capable of supporting cloud adoption. To encourage this vision, Microsoft acquired Deis, in order to build Kubernetes-centric services.
Deis supplies three core open source tools to manage deployments in kubernetes as follows:
-
Workflow : The simplest and flexible way for developers and operations team to use and manage apps- to run easily.
-
Helm : The package manager to find, share, and use software built for Kubernetes.
-
Steward : It is Kubernetes native service broker. It acts as a gateway from cluster applications to other services.
Like some of the renowned companies such as Mozilla, Cloudmine and social Radar, the Deis team continuously works on these open-source tools.
In one of his recent blog posts, Scott Guthrie, the Executive Vice President of Microsoft said- “Deis gives developers the means to vastly improve application agility, efficiency and reliability through their Kubernetes container management technologies”.
