IBM Introduces AI OpenScale & Multicloud Manager To Manage AI & Cloud Deployment

A Multinational Computer Technology and IT Consulting Corporation known by the nickname "Big Blue" i.e IBM on October 15, 2018 came up with the Artificial Intelligence (AI) OpenScale, a new technology platform that will enable companies to manage Artificial Intelligence transparently throughout the full Artificial Intelligence lifecycle, irrespective of the applications built or whichever environment the enterprise is working on.IBM Artificial Intelligence (AI) supports machine learning and deep learning models that are developed and trained in any open source model, which includes Scikit learn, SparkML, Tensorflow, and Keras, and also supports the applications and models trained and hosted in any integrated development environment such as Seldon, Microsoft AzureML, and Watson."Our strategy is to use an open, interoperable approach to fuel the AI economy," David Kenny, senior vice president of IBM Cognitive Solutions, said in the release. "We believe AI OpenScale represents a new technology category and the start of a new era in the mass adoption of AI for business because it is open - making any AI much easier to operate and fully transparent."The Artificial Intelligence OpenScale helps in auditability, automates explainability, and mitigates bias throughout the lifecycle of AI in a vendor-agnostic way. It also explains how AI recommendations are made in every business terms to help companies to understand how applications reach decisions.IBM also announced the Industry-first service IBM Multicloud Manager, that automates how companies can move, manage and how they can integrate apps across multiple cloud environments.Multicloud Manager also helps businesses to manage and combine workloads on clouds from providers including IBM and businesses like Microsoft, Amazon, and Red Hat. Amazon Launches APL- A New Design Language To build Alexa Skills

On 20th Sep 2018, Amazon officially announced a preview of a new design language i.e Alexa Presentation Language (APL) for developers which helps them to build interactive voice experiences that include images, video, slideshows, and graphics, and to customize them for different device types which include not just Eco Show, but other Alexa-enabled devices like Fire Tablet, Fire TV, and the small screen of the Alexa alarm clock, the Eco Spot.Anyone who is well experienced in front-end development will feel familiar with this syntax, as it follows universally understood styling practices. Amazon is also offering documents of APL to help developers get started, which can be modified or can be used as-is and developers can choose to develop their own scratch as well. These documents of APL are JSON files sent to a device from a skill. The device will then assess the document, import the images and other data, then render the experience. Now, developers can use elements like text, images, layouts, scrollviews, conditional expressions, speech synchronization, sequences, pages, and other commands. Support for audio, video, and HTML5 are coming soon. “This year alone, customers have interacted with visual skills hundreds of millions of times. You told us you want more design flexibility -in both content and layout – and the ability to optimize experiences for the growing family of Alexa devices with screens,” said Nedium Fresko, VP of Alexa Devices and Developer Technologies, in a statement. “With the Alexa Presentation Language, you can unleash your creativity and build interactive skills that adapt to the unique characteristics of Alexa Smart Screen devices,” he said.A few skills have already started using APL, including a Big Sky that shows images to present its weather forecasts, CNBC skill that shows a graph of stock performance, Food Network which shows recipes, Kayak that shows a slideshow of travel destinations, NextThere, which lets you view public transit schedules, and many more. Alexa device owners are allowed to use these APL-powered skills starting next month whereas developer preview for APL is available now to use.Source: Amazon Official Blog

Google announces that Cloud TPU is now available in beta on its GCP

On Monday, Google officially announced that Cloud TPUs (Tensor Processing Units) are now available in beta on GCP (Google Cloud Platform). These TPUs are specifically designed to scale up and speed up the machine learning workloads that are programmed with TensorFlow. The TPUs help to train the machine learning models quickly rather than exceeding days or weeks. Google initially declared its work with TPUs a few years back, however, released them recently to be utilized by its cloud clients. "We designed Cloud TPUs to deliver differentiated performance per dollar for targeted TensorFlow workloads and to enable ML engineers and researchers to iterate more quickly," Google wrote in a Cloud Platform blog. These TPUs are built with application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and each cloud TPU can pack up to 64GB of high-bandwidth memory and 180 teraflops of floating-point performance onto a single board. All these boards can be connected together or used alone through a high-speed network to design multi-petaflop machine learning supercomputers called “TPU pods”. Google Compute Engine VM gives data scientists access to a network-attached cloud TPU instead of sharing a cluster. So, they can customize and control those to address the issues of their workload. “Cloud TPUs are available in limited quantities today and usage is billed by the second at the rate of $6.50 USD / Cloud TPU / hour,” Google said in a blog post. In addition, Google also announced that GPUs are also available in beta in the latest release of Kubernetes Engine which speeds up the compute-intensive applications like financial modeling, image processing, and machine learning. Amazon is building its own AI chips for Alexa

According to a report by The Information, Amazon is developing its own Artificial Intelligence(AI) chips for the Echo, which would allow Alexa-powered devices to respond faster to commands, by allowing speech recognition to the device directly. At the present time, whenever a user makes a request on an Alexa-powered gadget, there is a time lag while the chatbot approaches the cloud in order to understand the inquiry. While Echo devices would keep on depending on the cloud for complex requests, allowing speech recognition would enable Alexa to execute simple tasks much faster, without wasting more time like the cloud delay. It is also trusted that Amazon may employ the Artificial Intelligence chip for its AWS (Amazon Web Services) platform to enhance its machine learning endeavors. Currently, the company has 450 employees who have a strong command over chip and it is developing its in-house chip endeavors. In the year 2015, it has obtained chip designer Annapurna Labs whose ARM-based Alpine chips are built for connected home devices and routers. Utilizing its own chips implies Amazon would be able to build new AI-driven abilities for Alexa without depending on chips designed by third-party organizations. Its contenders, including Google and Apple, have built their own AI chips in recent years and Google is already using its chips to support services such as Photos, Translate, Search, and Street View. Now, Amazon is the latest company that is showing interest in building AI chips.

Apple and Cisco team up with Allianz and Aon to offer cyber risk management solution

On Monday, Apple, Cisco, Allianz, and Aon announced a new cybersecurity insurance solution for all businesses, consisting of options for improved cyber insurance coverage from Allianz, the secure technology from Apple and Cisco, and cyber strength evaluation services from Aon. The new solution is developed to help a wide variety of businesses better protect and manage themselves from the most commonly faced cyber threats like ransomware and other malware-related risks. “The choice of technology providers plays a critical role in any company’s defense against cyber attacks. That’s why, from the beginning, Apple has built products from the ground up with security in mind, and one of the many reasons why businesses around the world are choosing our products to power their enterprise,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook, in a statement. Google collaborated with MobileIron to buy and sell apps in the cloud

Google has collaborated with MobileIron, a once venture-backed company that opened up to the world in 2014, to open a digital store that will provide cloud-based software to different organizations. Google says the partnership effort is intended to unite MobileIron's application distribution, security and analytics abilities with Google Cloud's Orbitera commerce platform. The white-label providing will come up with a handful of options together with custom designed bundles, says Google, to enable operators to build bundles of products and services by means of customer segments, voice and third-party cloud products and services, customized branding for both customers and operators of the marketplace, secure cloud access to make sure that only trusted users who are availing authorized apps get access to the cloud products and services. On Thursday, IBM announced its collaboration with Mendix that will combine Mendix’s low-code development platform with IBM’s Cloud, including data analytics, blockchain, mobile artificial intelligence and internet of things services. Alphabet announced the launch of Chronicle, a cybersecurity company

Alphabet, the parent company of Waymo, Nest, Google and many other companies today announced the launch of a new cybersecurity company using X technology called Chronicle. Its main focus is to offer greater possibility of finding and fighting off hackers. "We want to 10x the speed and impact of security teams' work by making it much easier, faster and more cost-effective for them to capture and analyze security signals that have previously been too difficult and expensive to find. We are building our intelligence and analytics platform to solve this problem." said Stephen Gillett, the new CEO of Chronicle. Chronicle will handle and keeps clients’ data secured by analysing the problems using analytics and machine learning tools. VirusTotal, a security company that was acquired by Google in 2012 for its online scans and antivirus products is folded into Chronicle. "We hope that by making this mix of technologies available to more companies at affordable prices, we can give 'the good guys' an advantage and help us all turn the tide against cybercrime," Gillett said in the blog post. As Chronicle is not the first firm to start this method, it will be compelling to look at how it is distinct from its challengers, which includes different log analytics organizations and the likes of IBM. The company said that they have added a large number of other company security experts like Will Robinson and Carey Nachenberg. They have also collaborated with Fortune 500 companies who have offered invaluable counsel on the direction and shape of their work and few are already testing its ‘cybersecurity intelligence platform’ in an early alpha version. Element AI opens its office in London with focus on ‘AI for good’

Element AI, an AI-based Canadian startup that offers groundbreaking artificial intelligence services is opening an office in London this week, which is its first international expansion and serves as their European headquarters as well. The company’s main focus is to expand its work with governmental and non-governmental organizations, university researchers, and industry on “AI for good” together working in manufacturing, cybersecurity, finance, robotics, and logistics. “There are so many exciting people in the world of academia and artificial intelligence wanting to do interesting stuff. How can we make sure our tools are not just meeting the needs of big companies? There are others who could also use them,” Dr Julien Cornebise, who will be leading Element.AI’s offices in London, said in an interview. Element AI is planning to recruit 20 developers and engineers to start its branch in London and also wants to develop its global network. Last year the company has raised nearly $102 million to develop an incubator-meets-consultancy in order to collaborate with multiple businesses as they introduce more AI based systems and services. “Element AI’s establishment of a London office is testament to the strengths of the UK research and innovation ecosystem in AI, and the potential for industrial collaborations with our businesses,” said Matt Sansam, Innovation Lead for Digital at Innovate UK, in a statement.
