On 26th February Google announced the release of their AI-based personal helper and conversational search, of Google Assistant. Despite the fact that Android OS is by far the universal smartphone platform in the world Google continues its forge ahead to expand in the mobile world.
This release was a response to the Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri including Android -forward phones like new LG G6 and Nexus. All these phones are now currently of Android 7.0 (Nougat) and Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).
The Google Assistant will be available to all the U.S customers followed by English speakers in Canada, U.K, and Australia; also in Germany for German speakers. For functions like getting directions to places, taking photos, setting and accessing calendar item, browsing photos, checking weather and to ask translations for phrases, Google’s famous app “OK Google” is available to the users.
As stated by Google, Today just 31 percent of Android devices are using both 7.0 and 7.1 version of Marshmallow and Nougat.Until now Google has only concentrated on the rollout of Google Assistant to only selected Google-branded software and hardware. Google’s smart-home device, Google Home, and Google’s chat app Allo have assistant feature since May 2016; also in Google’s Pixel smartphones and Android Wear.In future, it has plans to be part of Android car & TV.
Last week Google had declared a huge expansion of its RCS initiative and to make the messaging experience more dynamic rebranding Android SMS application to Android Messages. This move was made to make the messaging experience more dynamic, competitive and interactive.
