According to the latest update of the Tiobe Index of programming language popularity, Python has been rising to reach the top of language popularity while C is not doing so well with its ever decreasing popularity.
Since the past years, Python is said to have seen the most growth in the index with a 14% share and this is analyzed according to the language searches in Google. Index author Pierre Carbonelle stated, "Python has been [in] second place on PyPL for a year now and is still going strong." According to him, Python is able to achieve this as there is an increase in the popularity of AI and that Python supports AI libraries like Theano and Keras, making it a popular and perfect choice.

Tiobe index will measure the language popularity according to the language searches which will me made in some of the popular search engines such as Google, Wikipedia, and Bing. Python is currently ranking 4 in this month’s Index along with a rating of 4.239%. Python was placed in the 5th position last month along with a rating of 3.567%. Python first made it to the 4th position in December 2015.
C language, however, had lost nearly 8% in the previous year. Now with a rating of 8.726%, it is able to hang on to the second position according to Index which is behind Java, that has a rating of 17.856%. According to Tiobe, the reason behind the significant fall of the C language is that it is not evolving much and is normally not a primary choice while developing websites and writing mobile apps. Another reason for the fall of C is that no big companies are currently known to use it.
