Java and C are one of the most used languages for a long time and now, it has been proved again. C, often considered as the grandfather of all the languages, is still in the second position on the list according to the Tiobe Index of language popularity. Java has occupied the top position on the list, while C++ is at third.
Tiobe began publishing their list of most popular languages 15 years ago and the languages, Java and C has held the first and second position since then. These languages acquire their position on the list according to the search made on the languages on some popular search engines like Google and Bing.

The reason behind these two languages holding their top positions in the list from a long time was explained by Paul Jansen, managing director at Tiobe. The reason was pretty simple, if an organization has developed a software using millions of lines of code in Java and if other language pops up into the market, the organization or a company is just not going to leave their huge codes behind and move into newer languages, it is just too difficult.
Rated at 18.755, Java has been top on the list since April 2015 and C in the second position with a rating of 9.203, C++ is rated at 5.415 and has acquired the third position. Haskell is making its way into the picture by positioning itself at 23 on the list, which was at 40 a year ago. Other programming languages such as Objective-C and Swift, both from Apple, are ranked at 12th and 13th respectively.
