Microsoft has announced ‘Windows 10 Anniversary Update’, which is releasing on August 2, will be getting support for Bash on Ubuntu for Developers. Users will be able to see more options for Developer mode under Settings menu. This is not the only feature which is going to be updated, Microsoft is trying to make Windows 10 more secure by making some improvements to Windows Defender and introducing Windows Hello for apps and websites.
The Developer and power user related settings are to be under the Developer mode, making it easier to access these settings. Some of these settings which were seen in the preview included an option to show each file extension, an option to show full path in the title bar, an option to show hidden and system files along with other options to make Windows 10 more developer friendly. There are other options too, which includes Remote Desktop, PowerShell and Remote diagnostics.
With more than 350 million devices running Windows 10 and more than 250 million threats online in a given day, there is a need of proper security features to keep the information on the devices secure. Even though people are paying for premium Anti-virus software, they are not sufficient to keep the devices safe from many types of malware and malicious code.
To keep the devices secure, Microsoft is including a new feature called ‘Limited Periodic Scanning’ for the Windows Defender. This new feature allows the Defender to scan the device periodically and remove any threats that a anti-virus might have missed.
If you are worrying about the system performance due to the simultaneous running of both anti-virus and Defender, Microsoft has a solution for you. Windows Defender will be working on Automatic Maintenance, which makes the Defender to scan and remove threats when the device is not in use, thereby not affecting the performance or the battery life of your device. This is an optional feature meaning you can choose to turn it off.
Microsoft has made some changes to Cortana too, one of the major change is Windows 10 no longer has an option to turn off Cortana. With the Anniversary update, the search box itself is Cortana. Microsoft stated that "Customers can expect the same great search experience powered by Bing and Microsoft Edge with the added benefit of Cortana’s personality."
